Maria Haimerl holds a BA in Social Sciences (from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf) and a MA in Political Science (from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin/Freie Universität Berlin). During her studies she spent one semester at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. Her current research focuses on constitutional courts and their reasoning in a comparative perspective, particularly in “divided societies”. In addition to Turkey, she is very interested in Israeli and Egyptian constitutional politics.
Between October 2011 and October 2014 she was working as a student assistant in the research project “The influence of Constitutional Courts on the Process of Transformation. A Comparative Perspective on Turkey and Germany”, a project between Humboldt-Universität and Middle East Technical University. Since March 2014 she is researcher in the project “Research Lab Constitutional Politics in Turkey” funded by Stiftung Mercator.
