YouTube and Twitter Rulings of the Turkish Constitutional Court

The Constitutional Court of Turkey has ruled in April and May 2014 on the blocking of the websites Twitter and YouTube through the Telecommunications Communications Presidency (TİB). The Court decided that the individual complaints arguing for a violation of Freedom of Expression guaranteed in Art. 26 of the Turkish Constitution were right. The blocking of the whole website was not authorized, and against the decision of Turkish Courts that only ordered the Telecommunications Agency (TİB) to block specific accounts or specific content, the TİB did not follow the court orders and upheld the blocking of the whole content of both websites.

The Original Rulings of the Constitutional Court of Turkey are accessible online: YouTube-Ruling (Turkish), Twitter-Ruling (Turkish). English Translations of the rulings will follow soon on this website.
